Brightleaf Insurance
Brightleaf Insurance was formed originally as “Frank Lee Insurance Agency” in Smithfield. Its roots are embedded deep in the soils of Johnston County as the emphasis early on were in the agricultural policies that are needed to insure crops, farms, and the auto insurance for the rural areas of Southern Johnston County. As the agency grew under Mr. Lee, it expanded its horizons and very quickly became a “full-service” agency here in Smithfield.
In 2010, Brightleaf Insurance was sold to David Grady from Kenly. At the time of sale, the agency was located within the complex of the Brightleaf Flea Market. Originally, the office was relocated to a smaller space within the Brightleaf Market because the “crop” insurance lines had been eliminated earlier by Mr. Lee. The staff was trimmed to accommodate the smaller size when the agency was sold.
Late in 2012, J.P. Renfrow agreed to join the Brightleaf organization and both agencies were both moved into a new location on Brightleaf Blvd in March of 2013. In early 2014, the newer location for agency was sold by the landlord. We purchased and re-modeled the building which serves as its current location at 1709 S. Brightleaf Blvd. This location offered additional space for the agency to continue to grow in the future.
In 2015, negotiations began with Tom Parrish who owned Insurance Unlimited in Smithfield. In March of 2016, the two agencies merged together at the new Brightleaf Insurance location. This blended the very capable staff of both agencies into a professional team who have proven to be very “service” driven individuals. In January of 2017, Mr. Grady acquired the book of business from Mr. Parrish, and, as a result of the earlier merger, the process was seamless for the clients, staff, and insurance carriers of both agencies. We pride ourselves in having maintained the staff of both offices.
Today, Brightleaf Insurance is a “mid-sized” independent agency that continues to be locally owned. The staff that has been assembled for assisting the clients with asset management decisions is very seasoned. Professionally, we can help choose among a wide array of insurance companies to solve the complex risk issues that arise in everyone’s life. Our organization offers the fully automated services that are required with today’s policy transactions, while having our feet firmly planted within the agricultural heritage of our area.
